Clash of the Titans

Clash of the Titans poster

The mortal son of the god Zeus embarks on a perilous journey to stop the underworld and its minions from spreading their evil to Earth as well as the heavens.

Critics opinions:

While the acting is nothing to talk about, the movie does have goodspecial effects, but not great. Perseus, a demi-god, sets upon a questto save a kingdom against Hades and the Kraken. He also has a personalgrudge against Hades since he is responsible for his human familiesdeaths.

So, he sets out with some soldiers and travels through a desert. Therethey encounter these mystical people and giant scorpions. Here we get abattle scene that after a while gets old. One of the desert peoplejoins the quest as they go to see these witches to learn how to defeatthe Kraken. Then it is off to the underworld and to kill Medusa. TheMedusa part was OK, but the special effects could have been better. Then the fall of the Kraken was rather uneventful.

FINAL VERDICT: The story definitely could have been better. But it wasa descent action flick. I recommend it if an action film is what youare looking for.

The original Clash of the Titans was an amazing film! I loved it when ifirst saw it. I heard they're remaking the movie and i was so happy, iwanted to see it. So when i saw it, i kept saying "what the hell?! Thisdidn't happen in the original!" now you might say "oh in some remakesthat doesn't happen." well to be frank a lot of things doesn't happen. This version was completely changed!

Perseus was in love with Andromeda. Bubo the mechanical owl, was a hugehelp and they only gave him a cameo! Bubo helped Perseus find theStygian Witches. To make this short, i didn't like it. You might have adifferent opinion, please go see the original Clash of the Titans.

i give this 1/10

OK. It's not the worst movie I've ever seen. I've seen a lot of badfilm makings this year, so where do we start?? Oh, just for the record,if you witnessed 1981's "Clash of the Titans" you'll understand what Imean. I was just 10 years old when I watched it and it was brilliant -No 3D, no CGI, just a great story with a great ride to be on for 2hours. When there's a remake of an old movie, it should add some depth, some good acting, some "WOW". There was nothing there. Actors were asif they were reading from a piece of paper learning how to be in amovie; false feelings, false rage, false fear..I didn't care for any ofthem. Sam Worthington is not a good actor (And I am an Avatar fan), theaccent is awful. He shouldn't star in these "block buster" films. Themovie is too hollow, too shallow, its just one action scene to anotherwith nothing in between. Definite 5/10 at the most. Rent the DVD, saveyour money, it doesn't deserve it.

Apart from some very few low-enjoyable moments this is just aridiculous and very dumb movie. Why Neeson and Fiennes needed thatmoney baffles me. Are they not afraid of the reviews and fear for theircareers? The stink of this laughable script must have reached theirdistinctive noses when they read it and they just held their breath andtook the check.

Good for them this is a movie that will be very forgotten, very soon. It's luckily not bad enough to be a scandal.

I wish they would come up with better writers for fantasy material likethis. It's not like one could not make a good entertainer out of thissimple idea of Greek mythology. That's why I saw it in the first place.

For what it's worth this movie is still harmless and some kids willenjoy the action and mediocre SFX. I do not give horrible zero ratingsunless the movie is pure agony or a disgrace in any way.

Mankind is challenging the gods and Zeus (Neeson) doesn't like it. Soto teach them a lesson Zeus allows Hades (Fiennes) to bring disruptionto the earth. But the god/man son of Zeus, Perseus (Worthington) seesthe good in mankind and has plans to defeat Hades.

It took a long time for me to see this movie. I just knew it would beall CGI showing fighting against all kinds of creatures. I was notwrong, but giant Scorpions? And truth be told, there was really nothingelse out there. The CGI is nothing but terrific, but give me a break.Too much CGI gets boring pretty quick. It puts me into sleepy-time modeas it never seems to stop (insert a Big Yawn here).

To review the main actors, Liam Neeson seemed to be miscast and heseemed to be wary that he was indeed Zeus. Well, if he couldn't believeit, we couldn't either. And, it would have helped more if his hair waswhite. We like gods with white hair because it shows the gods have whatwe lack: wisdom (insert Bewilderment look here).

Ralph Fiennes was pretty good as Hades. He needed more scenes as he wastruly a breath of fresh air (insert Almost Curious look here).

Sam Worthington as Perseus was okay but he was too busy deflectingattention to others in the cast. We hardly knew ye Perseus (insert Whatthe Hell You Doing look here).

We also saw creatures who were mostly blue, and Zombie-like, but theycould fight and had mysterious powers (insert Who the Hell Are Theylook here). We could have accepted them if when they talked we couldunderstand them, but we couldn't. It was like listening to someone whois talking but all we hear is a lot of grunting. Not good (insert Whatthe Hell Are You look here).

So there you have it. Another remake that should not have been made,"but we have all this CGI technology and what do they (that would beus) know?"

I would call this disappointing. Insert a Disappointed look on me now

Violence: Yes. Sex: No. Nudity: No. Language: No.

Despite its flaws(the uneven acting and the episodic storybook-likestructure) I really like the original Clash of the Titans, especiallyfor the set design and the Harryhousen effects. In short, it is flawedbut good nostalgic fun. This 2010 remake is very well done in thecostume and set design and some of the effects are truly incredible, but emotionally it is ultimately hollow.

While I do agree the effects were incredible, especially the Kraken, some of the scenes could have been better done. In particular with thegorgon Medussa. A scene that terrified me when I was little in theoriginal and still does to some extent, but as has been pointed outonce or twice before there was more emphasis on too much action notenough suspense which diminished that scene's appeal in this.

The music comes across as rather generic. It strived to be rousing, energetic and bombastic, something you would find with Erich Korngoldand Bernard Hermann, but sadly it came across as generic and boring.Pacing was an issue as well, it was very uneven here. It felt as thoughthe not-so-important scenes dragged and the important bits felt rushedand skimmed over. The direction was disappointingly lethargic too.

My main complaints though are with the acting, story and script. As Ihave said, the story and acting weren't the strongest points of theoriginal, but both elements had their moments. However, the story has avery uneven structure, it is quite episodic, but it is also ratherunexciting. On the whole the dialogue is awful and very banal, andthere were some scenes where it came across as cheesy or forced. Theacting wasn't much to go on either. Sam Worthington was merely alright,he has the heroism and charm, but then there is the accent that comesand goes and I got the sense that the delivery of some of the lines andthe action sequences didn't come naturally to him. I was moredisappointed in the bigger names. Ralph Fiennes doesn't seem to have aclue what he is doing here, and Liam Neeson looks lost and embarrassed.Gemma Arterton can be good(BBC's Tess of the D'Urbevilles) but whileshe is very pretty, her character is rather vapid.

Overall, it had its moments, but it was unengaging and disappointing.4/10 for the production values. Bethany Cox

As a great lover of most things 'long ago' and a fan of this sort offilm, I had perhaps unreasonably high expectations of this one. Ohdear.

The casting wasn't great. Instead of a lovable everyman to get theaudience on his side, we instead receive a quite dislikable andsomewhat thuggish-looking, shaven-headed Perseus played badly by SamWorthington. Liam Neeson is an unimposing, henpecked-looking Zeus. LordVoldemort voices Hades wonderfully early in the film, until RalphFiennes gets control of his alter-ego and finds a different accent touse (and that voice aside, his performance was quite good). In the halfan hour since the film ended I've pretty much forgotten what Andromedadid, so unused was the character, so I can't say much about her; andPerseus's merry men were neither good nor bad.

Saved until last, Gemma Arterton as Io was surprisingly good... well, once I'd come to terms with Io being ripped from one part of themythology and inexplicably transplanted into this story, hilariously asa 'love interest' for the son of the guy who got her pregnant thenturned her into a cow. Then Pegasus appeared (now a species, not aspecific horse), and he was a badass black horse who scared all hiswhite mates away.

Just as I was dealing with that, a djinn appeared out of the wrongmythology entirely and struck a devastating blow for odd Hollywoodstorylining. On the bright side he looked like a baby ent, on thedownside... what was he doing in Greek myth? Similarly, the Kraken -who sent him? Loki, Thor? And if we can push the name aside for amoment, why was Hades controlling the SEA monster? Why did Andromedavolunteer to be sacrificed to it? And why did it totally ignore her forten minutes? As a saving grace the effects are pretty good, and Pegasuslooked very nice in flight. One battle scene was decent if a littlehard to follow, and some of the acting was good too.

Maybe I ruined this film for myself, but if you know a little about themythology you'll spend at least half the film picking at it.
