Critics opinions:
If you asked me: what were they thinking to resurrect 23 year old moviefor a sequel? Well, let me tell you, it's all about money! Just likeevery successful film that has sequel to follow later, awell-experienced "Platoon" (1986) Director, Oliver Stone eventuallysettles his first sequel. Michael Douglas replays one of his lifetimefamous performances as Gordon Gekko, like what he did in 1987. It tellsthe notorious corporate raider Gekko has finally got out of prisonwhere he redeemed his sin on illegal insider trading. The film alsofocuses on Jacob Moore (Shia LaBeouf), the young ambitious trader whois the fiancé of Gekko's daughter, Winnie (Carrey Mulligan). There areseveral Cameo appearances, include main character from the first one,Bud Fox (Charlie Sheen). Douglas himself seems to be lack of space torepeat his charisma as seen on its predecessor, the script could notreserve enough space to describe his 'zero to hero' situation smoothly,Douglas is just fine. Carey Mulligan once again shows her capability asone of the most promising Actresses in thiz generation. Two corporatetycoons were stirring conflict among Jake character played by JoshBrolin and Frank Langella, recently they had something in common, bothof them portrayed President's character in 2008, Langella convincinglyplayed as Richard Nixon in "Frost/Nixon" and Brolin acted theother-side of George W. Bush in short-titled movie "W." (also directedby Stone). Oliver Stone is a Director who always improvises withdifferent methods. At thiz movie, he used a lot of attractive graphicsand split-screen techniques like we had ever seen in his previousworks, "Natural Born Killer" (1994) and "U Turn" (1997), which I likeit so much. But, something is disturbing me, the promising storylineduring almost the entire film crashes down in the end. The plots rushinto solution too quickly. I know any single deathly rumor can kill anymarket stock instantly in thiz wide-open market. But hey, at least yougive something detail to make it real. It's an awful ending. Even whilethe ending tries to consolidate everything with centerpiece of humanrelationship. At the end, if someone tells you, "It's not about themoney, it's about anything else", no matter how will you debate on atopic, trust me it's not true! Even Gekko once said, "money is a b!tchthat never sleeps".

I found this movie to begin slowly, but it started to get slightlybetter quickly. This movie could have been really great if it wasallowed to grow in the development of the story. The story focuses alot more on Jake Moore (Shia LaBeouf) than on Gordon Gekko (MichaleDouglas) which isn't a bad thing but Gekko should have been in it more. The film starts out with Gekko coming out of prison which is 7 yearslater. The character of Jake Moore was pretty good, his intentions wereconvincing, but Winnie (Carey Mulligan) wasn't great. Her characterdidn't seem to fit in well with the story and it dragged on. She becamevery annoying quickly because she was mostly crying/tearing out. Alsothe film showed too much of romance between Jake and Winnie. AlsoGordon Gekko didn't seem the same compared to the original. In thisone, he changes for the better and seems to have learn his lesson. Theending shows this instance. Overall, the film should have been muchbetter than it was.
This film was shockingly bad for all the top talent in it. The scriptwas about 12 rewrites short of OK. The cinematography was amateurish, using a variety of gimmicky fade-outs, split screens that were hard towatch, and way too many cityscapes. We figured all the shots of thecity were put in there during editing because they didn't have a wholelot of other stuff.
Susan Sarandon had a small part and it was painful listening to herattempts at a Long Island accent. Where was the director in all this?
It's a real shame because the original Wall Street is a landmark iconicfilm. This could have been a marvelous sequel. It isn't. It was painfulto watch all that talent in search of a reasonable plot.
Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps
The reason money doesn't sleep, like the rest of us, is because it'stoo busy counting itself.
And while the greedy investor in this financial drama slept in prison,he likely did so on his back.
After doing 8 years for insider trading, Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas)finds himself released into a world where his former motto "Greed isGood" has proliferated into the markets' mantra which explains whyit's teetering on collapse.
Meanwhile, Jake (Shia LaBeouf), a young trader, wants Gekko's help tosolve his mentor's (Frank Langella) murder. As well, he hopes to marryGordon's estranged, indignant daughter (Carey Mulligan).
While it does sound intriguing to have Douglas reprise the miserly rolehe made famous in 1987 and place said character in the currentfinancial crisis, Money Never Sleeps, unfortunately, is a serioussnore.
Furthermore, money does sleep
