Little Fockers

Little Fockers poster

It has taken 10 years, two little Fockers with wife Pam (Polo) and countless hurdles for Greg to finally get "in" with his tightly wound father-in-law, Jack. After the cash-strapped dad takes a job moonlighting for a drug company, however, Jack's suspicions about his favorite male nurse come roaring back. When Greg and Pam's entire clan-including Pam's lovelorn ex, Kevin (Owen Wilson)-descends for the twins' birthday party, Greg must prove to the skeptical Jack that he's fully capable as the man of the house. But with all the misunderstandings, spying and covert missions, will Greg pass Jack's final test and become the family's next patriarch...or will the circle of trust be broken for good?

Critics opinions:

What a jolly jape making another movie with Focker in the titlebecause, hilarity upon hilarity, Focker sounds like something rude sowe must laugh. Except we don't really as this series of films hasdredged the barrel bottom clean for a second unfunny sequel tocomplement something that was not that funny first time round. Thegangs all here again to perform a series of unfunny sketches unfunnilyand leave the audience paralysed with laughter. Well paralysed at leastif they don't get up and do something more interesting like repointtheir sewage system. Robert DeNiro used to be one of the finest actorsever to hit the screen and that's all you need to know about this pileof putrid puss. As long as people troop in and titter at the Benny Hillstyle double entendre of people called Focker then there will be nodoubt be a fourth probably called 'something something mother Fockersomething' which will send us apoplectic with mirth.......or not mostlikely. The silliest Fockers of all have to be the audience for thistripe. Luckily I saw it for free and I thought I was robbed. They maynot make films like they used to but they still churn out utter garbagelike this year in year out so prepare for more Focking Fockers in thenear future. Makes you Focking weep!

If you look at me review profile, then you'll know that I can, attimes, be easily entertained. There was nothing entertaining about thisawful movie.

Only once I laughed, only once out of at least thirty or so jokes. Theonly timed I laughed was at the very end, even typing about it i'msmiling. The bad part about the funny part is that I had to sit through90 minutes of torture. I have never left a theatre before, but I hadsuch a strong urge just to say "screw it" and walk out, but I stayed inthe theatre, which was the worst decision I've probably ever made. Thejokes are so terrible though, it was like they got Jason Friedberg andAaron Seltzer to write all the "jokes".

What puzzles me most is why De Niro came back, I can understand whyStiller came back, but not De Niro. Let us pray that they don't eventhink about making another one. Please, this movie is a waste of timeand money. I should've left.

After "Austin Powers" helmer Jay Roach made the first two Mike Myersretro-1960s spy spoofs, he made a completely different comedy "Meet theParents" (2000) that spawned another profitable big-ticket franchise.Roach followed up the hilarious "Parents" with an even bigger andfunnier sequel "Meet the Fockers" (2004) which coined nearly$300-million at the box office. These two lowest common denominatorfarces focused on the foul-ups that a WASP-Jewish couple made as theysought to accommodate their diametrically-opposite in-laws. The raunchywit of Roach and his scribes and the terrific performances of Robert DeNiro and Ben Stiller respectively as patriarch and prospectiveson-in-law fueled the humor. Now, Roach has handed "Little Fockers" andthe franchise over to "American Pie" director Paul Weitz. As talentedas Weitz is, he lacks Roach's sense of humor. Indeed, Universal Studioshad to negotiate with co-star Dustin Hoffman to retain his services forthis largely lackluster sequel. Reportedly, Hoffman hated the soporificscreenplay and lamented Roach's departure. Nevertheless, the "Rain Man"star showed up for six scenes. One major advantage of "Little Fockers"is that Universal lured back the original cast. You can always tellwhen a franchise is falling apart by the absence of original castmembers. The filmmakers devote a large part of their 98 minute runningtime to the logistics of shuffling characters in and out of thecomplicated story, particularly the peripheral characters. Owen Wilson,Barbara Streisand, and Dustin Hoffman reappear, but they occupystrictly supporting roles.

Primarily, "Little Fockers" amounts to a fair-to-middling farce with ashortage of gross-out gags. Indeed, it pales by comparison with thezany original and the laugh riot sequel that featured a surfeit ofinfantile humor. The projectile vomit scene and the penile injectionscene are the funniest scenes in this bland sequel. Sadly, "Meet theFockers" suffers from one of its own comic plotdevices--erectile-dysfunction--because it is hard-up for humor. "Meetthe Parents" scenarist John Hamburg and newcomer Larry Stuckey spendmore time on the complications than the comedy of errors. Predictably, they exploit the obscene-sounding surname of Ben Stiller's characterfor standard snickers. Meanwhile, they have contrived yet another lameconfrontation between a straight-faced but scowling Robert De Niro andBen Stiller's sympathetic but stumbling schlemiel. Mind you, De Niroand Stiller are still very good as mortal enemies.

The biggest difference between "Little Fockers" and the two earlierfilms is that Gaylord Focker (Ben Stiller of "Tropic Thunder") and wifePam (Teri Polo of "The Beacon") are married and living in Chicago withtwins, a young daughter and son, Samantha (Daisy Tahan) and Henry(Colin Baiocchi), who are going to celebrate their fifth birthday.Gregg, as he prefers to be called, has landed an administrativeposition at a Chicago Hospital. This time around gimlet-eyed, formerCIA agent Jack Byrnes (Robert De Niro of "Taxi Driver") tries to busthis son-in-law for an extramarital affair with Andi Garcia (JessicaAlba of "Machete"), a flirtatious prescription drug saleslady. Shetools around in a red sports car with 'Rx Grrrl' on her license tag.Scenarists Hamburg and Stuckey are following up on the health-careminded lead of the recent Viagra comedy "Love and Other Drugs" withJake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway. Hamburg and Stuckey combine theerectile-dysfunction issue with Jack's weak heart condition. Theerectile-dysfunction medicine here is touted as user friendly for heartpatients. Jack suffers a mild heart attack, but survives it byimprovising his own defibrillation paddles. Meantime, the first timethat drug rep Andi meets Gregg, she likes him. When an unhappyAfrican-American patient protests about the way that Nurse Louis (KevinHart of "Soul Plane") is administering an enema, Andi snaps on thegloves to help and Gregg lends a hand. Everything that they say as theygive the enema is laden with sexual innuendo. Nurse Louis is grinningin the background, while the patient is swooning. Of course, Andibecomes infatuated with Gregg and wants him to serve as a spokesman forher company.

This part of "Little Fockers" dovetails with Gregg and Pam's marriage.Gregg's mom, therapist Roz Focker (Barbara Streisand), who hosts herown talk show "Sexpress Yourself," discusses how child rearing ofteninterferes with a couple's sex life. Sometimes, she says, thiscomplication drives the man to cheat. When Jack spots samples of theerectile-dysfunction medicine "Sustengo" in a closet, he concludes thatGregg is up to something. Gregg wants to keep his business dealingswith Andi a secret because he is trying to finance the remodeling ofhis suburban home, and he doesn't want anybody to know where he isgetting the money. Not surprisingly, Jack interprets things the wrongway. "Little Fockers" is basically another comedy of errors. Weitz andhis scenarists bring Pam's old flame, Kevin Rawley (Owen Wilson of"Marley and Me") back into the action because Jack is having doubtsthat Gregg is best for Pam. Bernie (Dustin Hoffman) is off cavorting inSeville, Spain, learning how to dance the flamenco dance because itpromotes sexual health.

This uninspired three-quel qualifies as a potboiler. The complicationsare basically Jack spying on Gregg again, and Gregg struggling to be aresponsible breadwinner without confiding in Jack. Weitz and companytack on another ineffectual subplot about the Fockers enrolling thetwins in an upper-scale kindergarten, the Early Human School, thatisn't silly enough to be funny. Actress Laura Dern plays Prudence, thehead mistress who interviews both the parents and children. Pam getssick and cannot attend the tour day, so Gregg takes along everinquisitive Jack. Naturally, Prudence leaps to the wrong conclusionthat Gregg and Jack are a gay couple. Ironically, the title suggeststhat the twins will drive the story. Alas, the twins remain just asperipheral as Bernie, Roz, Kevin, and Dina. "Little Fockers" is toomarginal to be anything but a rental.

Having rated meet the fockers 10 (which I had seen first) and meet theparents 8, I was expecting a great movie. Many years have passed so Ithought that I would laugh a lot with a lot of fresh jokes. As long asI don't often go to the cinema, when I choose a movie I want it to begood. This one was disappointing. I think that the creators wanted some"fresh money" without doing anything good, just based on the previousmovies' success.

The plot is simple and you don't want to see what is going to happennext. Jessica is very good on her role. In fact she is the best thingon this film. Maybe it's my fault that I didn't have a good time withthis movie but I think that is another boring movie without havinganything to offer..

My advice is to wait it on DVD, and then, don't rent it!
