I've been around a long time, I have read lots of fiction, and I haveseen lots of movies. But I must count myself among those who was onlyvaguely familiar with the story here, "Alice in Wonderland." I knew ithad to do with falling into a hole, and encountering some unusualcreatures, but not much else.

This movie starts with Alice as a young girl, and discussingimagination with her father who always told her you can't do theimpossible until you believe that it is possible.

The main of this movie however is of Alice in her late teen years, andas she is proposed to by a geeky red-haired guy, she runs off to think.And that is when she accidentally falls down a hole at the base of alarge tree. This is evidently her second time down the hole, the firstwhen she was much younger. Seems everyone in that strange land iswaiting for her. Because she must help defeat the large-headed redqueen, in favor of the nicer white queen.

Johnny Depp has top billing as the Mad (as in 'crazy') Hatter. YoungAustralian actress Mia Wasikowska is teenage Alice. Helena BonhamCarter is the Red Queen. Anne Hathaway is the White Queen. And AlanRickman voices the animated Blue Caterpillar.

Visually the film is excellent. It is not all fun and happiness, infact it is a fairly 'dark' film. But I am glad I finally saw "Alice inWonderland."

It seemed so promising. Tim Burton the perfect director to make anadaptation of a weird tale such as Alice. But the result feels like areally big misfire. Surprising, in a negative way.

The film is technically brilliant. They have really succeeded increating a visually outstanding Wonderland. Many big names in the cast.Mia Wasikowska is very good as Alice but I must state that she is notmore than good. At least myself didn't come to care that much for thelead character throughout the film but maybe the writing is to beblamed. Johnny Depp plays the kind of crazy roll he so often does andjust as good again here. The rest of the big names also do a good jobhowever the one who stands out is Helena Bonham Carter. She steals theshow every time she appears with her over the top acting, perfect asthe Red Queen.

While the outside of the film is well done the big flaw is that thereis nothing much underneath the brilliant surface. Even though they havecreated an amazing looking Wonderland the film feels really stiff andempty. The story is not bad but there's nothing much in the plot to getone interested. After a pretty good beginning it soon seems to be goingon routine, eliminating any possibilities for suspense or thrills. It'sjust nothing special. Soon one realises it's just an ordinary Disneyfilm. When the ending comes the viewers have since long seen where it'sheading. Some bits of the film are somewhat funny but quite a fewscenes felt pretty awkward, like forced humor. Seamed at times likethey where really trying to hard. It is OK to take liberties with thematerial that you base a film on. I have not read the books so to me itfollowed loosely what I knew about Alice adventures. Still I feel theyfailed, this is really blank. I think I can state that it does not dothe classic justice.

Alice in Wonderland is not a bad film. But it is still a big failurebecause I feel it could and should have been so much. In the end asomewhat entertaining film but sadly a major disappointment. When theygather up a crew such as this to make a re-imagining of a classic manyassume it will be something special. This Alice in Wonderland isdefinitely nothing special just average at best. 6/10

Well, overall the film is good to watch. It will give you a NEWEXPERIENCE if you have already been through 'Alice in Wonderland'stories/movies. Helena Carter and Johnny Depp are as good as theyalways are, especially when they are teamed together to work in a TimBurton movie. The only thing upsetting is Mia Wasikowska, and that'sthe thing that messed up everything. I mean, she is 'Alice', the maincharacter of the movie. It's not that she is all a bad actress, butlooks like the role didn't suite her perfectly well. I'm a great fan ofTim, Johnny and Helena, and I'm sad to know that I didn't enjoy thismovie as much as I did their previous efforts.

About the story I will say it started good. But it would have been morefun if this was not about WAR OF SISTER QUEENS. I mean, it could bringmore emotion to the story if that was about freedom. In fact, lookslike they missed the main spot where viewers were supposed to beemotionally connected to the story of battle. They did it ratherquickly and did not show much to bring the right connection. Throughwatching the movie, I was more interested to see the environment andnew characters, and did not care much about the War and the Battle. Itwas already exposed more than enough that Alice is going to slay theJabberwock, which seemed to bring the concept of why Alice was broughtdown to Underland. I think there is serious trouble with LindaWoolverton's Writing. With such a marvelous Direction, Graphics andgreat bunch of actors, there could have been much more to this movie.

Call me a strict Judge for giving it 5/10. Somewhat might enjoy thismovie greatly to give it 7+, but it could have been a lot better thanthis. And for me, Tim Burton's efforts has gone to vein because ofLinda's script and Mia's bad role.

So much 3D, so little sense... The movie has hardly anything to withthe classic book "Alice in Wonderland". That is, besides a few names ofmain characters, and a couple of misplaced quotes (for instance, it'sthe Queen who supposed to be able to believe in several impossiblethings before breakfast, not Alice). Alice is mutated into a kind ofmedieval "La Femme Nikita", completely ruining the rich images andreferences of the book. Incoherent beginning of the movie (where Alicesuddenly show her feminist side) and inane ending (where Alice becomesa kind of startup manager in an emerging market) just add insult toinjury.
