I can honestly say that I do not find the Paranormal Activity movieshorrifying but I do give them credit for indeed being disturbing. Theyoffer chills and might cause you to keep looking over your shoulderwhen you are alone in your house, but I expected a lot more from thesecond film. I didn't see this in the theater (I saw Saw 3Dinstead...worst) so maybe I missed out. But watching this at home, Ifelt that most of the movie was just footage where you're just waitingand watching for something to actually happen. Nothing remotelyinteresting happens for a long time into the movie. What I want to knowis why did the demon start off with a bang and trash the house in thebeginning, then just go around moving bedroom doors? We see that thedemon really hates the pool cleaner but doesn't cause any realdisturbance for awhile. I found myself yawning a lot through most of itbut when the real action started occurring it was enough to keep meinterested and redeem the movie. I heard about the alternate ending,and yeah it's disturbing, but you kind of figure that that's whathappened anyway even though you don't see it in the theatrical version.The acting wasn't too bad either. I found them all pretty believable.Overall, this movie wasn't horrible but nowhere near being great. Itwas a good movie to watch in the dark right before bed that wouldn'tgive you nightmares.

The first "Paranormal Activity" was genuinely scary because it wassomething of a novelty. It had few characters and kept the audiencewaiting for its thrills, building up slowly, but inexorably, towards ahorrifying conclusion. Much of its impact comes from the suspensegenerated by having most of its events take place, slowly, at night.

The sequel provides some of the background, and a brief codicil, tothose events and uses the same approach - it was even filmed in thesame house. However, it really takes things too far. or maybe not farenough. The shocks are fine when they come, but we are kept waiting WAYtoo long for them. Along the way, we are treated to too many shots ofthe same things, particularly that wretched pool cleaner. These peoplemust have the cleanest pool in San Diego.

The real problem, though, is with the characters. Worst is the mainmale character, Daniel (Brian Boland), who is basically a jerk. Hisskepticism comes to seem pigheaded rather than rational. At a crucialpoint, when his family is dissolving into chaos, he chooses to leavethe house to go to a business meeting. Most reprehensibly, when thetruth of the situation is clear even to him, he resolves it by foistingthe whole problem onto someone else.

The consequences are fatal for them, but Daniel does get hiscomeuppance in no uncertain terms just afterward, At that point, Iactually cheered.

Rating: A disappointed 5/10

Well, this is becoming really really really bad.. Either Hollywoodmaking movies on crappy video games with no story or emotions with lotsof unnecessary sex scene and gore. Or they make sequence one after theother like a factory churning out new model of cars every otherquarter. Few examples SAW, Hostel and Resident Evil to name few. So PA2joins this elite list of crappy sequel. Once they made the PA1 andearned considerable amount of money which was worth considering thefact PA1 was not really scary but at least the movie grow on you and itwas something you would not expect. This PA2 directory wasconcentrating on getting money out of these sequence so much so that hedidn't see the obvious flaws, everything was expected and repeated andit was failed attempt to connect PA1 to PA2 in some weird ways. TheLaptops were sleek and browsing internet in lawn that too in 1996, itmust be some kind of jokes, even alien movies which usually showsfuture didn't show that much technology based in 1996. To add that Ali,drink the orange juice in couple of scene by pouring into glass, thebottle was clearly visible as Simply Orange juice bottle. Simply Orangebrand was introduced in 2001 itself but characters were drinking thatjuice in 1996 some 4 years before the juice launch:) Overall, its noteven popcorn movie. I don't blame the peoples who make these kind ofcrappy sequel and earning money in millions its peoples stupid peopleslike us who spend time and money to watch these movies, as long as wecontinue to watch sequels they will continue to make them. I guess weshould stop watching Hollywood movies altogether and start watchingforeign movies, like Spanish, Korean, Chinese, Argentinian, and EastEuropean, they are really making classic movies these days. Hollywoodonly knows few formulas, video games, Super heroes, Sequels and Nazibasing Jews, apart from that nothing else.

Awful and painfully boring movie. The last 10 minutes or so are perhapsworth while, everything before that is an absolute waste of time. Wholemovie is like watching an "empty" house through security cameras.Frustrating and boring, just can't state that enough. Though somethinghad me going through the whole movie, while loudly saying "such a wasteof time" it is still absolute boredom. Acting actually was not thatbad, but who could know for sure when everything was going throughhouse security cameras and aka Blair witch kinda perspective. Thoselast 10 minutes should be happening in first third of the movie or atleast provide us with some action in first 60 minutes. I can honestlysay that most topic related movies in 80's were much much better and weall know that just a few of those are actually watchable. This is atrue 1 star and 90 minutes (give or take) wasted. Last few minutes justcan't make up for the rest.

**SPOILERS, DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE FILM!**

This is my first review, so bear with me! Never felt inclined to postbefore, but having seen the film for the first time last night, andafter reading some of the reviews today, I couldn't help myself!Firstly, I'm a fan of the first film, no doubt about that. It had justthe right balance of jumpy moments, ever-increasing dread, horrificscenes and sufficient 'fear of the unknown' to make it a perfectlypitched horror film. I enjoyed it at the time, and it was only on the2nd or 3rd night after seeing it that it started playing on my mind atbed-time! I was so pleased to see that this film wasn't just a similarseries of events happening to an unrelated family/household, with Katiemaking a token appearance at the end. It was genuinely exciting for methat we instantly find out from the caption at the start that we'rewatching a related story, and little bits of background kept gettingintroduced which fleshed out the overall story very well, and actuallyquite cleverly. The way this film sets up, and runs parallel to, theevents of #1 is brilliant.

The main aspect of the film, and other reviews I've seen, which Iwanted to pick up on was the notion that 'nothing happens in the firsthour'. I totally disagree! The multiple scenes where 'nothing happens'in the early nights of the story served to build the tension to a pointwhere it almost became unbearable. Not to mention the fact thatactually, lots of little things ARE happening throughout; they don'thave to be scary in of themselves in order to increase the overall feelof fear for the audience.

There's nothing scarier as a viewer than waiting for something tohappen, but not knowing when it's coming or what it's going to be. Yes,we obviously have a good idea of the sorts of things the demon iscapable of, because we've already seen the exact same demon in actionin the first film. That doesn't detract from it though, because we'rein a different setting with different people, and a very, verydifferent atmosphere to the house. This was for me one of the mostsatisfying aspects, the atmosphere. It made it still feel fresh andexciting.

It probably shouldn't have, but the ending completely took me bysurprise. I thought it would be a handover to the first film and thatwould be that. After all, an exorcism/transfer is a pretty weightyconclusion to a film like this! The fact that we then get one morenight at the sister's house is fantastic, and that initial sight ofKatie stood behind the Father character will stay with me! For me, Ithink that should be it with these films. If not, then it needs toeither be a completely new family/scenario, or some sort ofprequel-prequel, showing what happened to the girls when they wereyoung. It's actually a scarier prospect to think of demon taking Hunterdown to hell or wherever it is demons take their prized souls, thanhave him re-emerge as some sort of Damien character. That wouldpresumably mean taking Katie's body with it, or leaving it behind,alive or dead.

Anyway, enough of my theories! Just to reemphasise, this is a greatfilm from start to finish, and a more than worthy sequel. If there areto be more films, I really hope they don't mess up a brilliant premiseand story thus far!
