The Cast in The King's Speech did such a great job that they deserve anOscar. I never thought I'd be interested in British Royalty but fordays and days after seeing this film I couldn't think of anything else.The political machinations swirling behind the scenes made for anenthralling subplot. The historical context in which this story tookplace gave even greater meaning and depth to the overall story. Mydaughter is a speech pathologist and therefore it had special meaningto us personally.I am sure that anyone who has had public speakingthrust upon them can easily empathize with King George VI and historturous experience. The most interesting aspect of this film is thatit didn't have all the usual Hollywood superstars, gratuitous sex andviolence or computer generated imaging that so many inferior films havetoday. This film relies entirely on a solid plot, good characterdevelopment and some of the finest acting in recent years.

The time right now is early February, 2011. One month ago, "King'sSpeech" ranked fairly low on my to-see list. Then the buzz startedcoming, the Academy Awards nominated the film for an astounding twelveawards, and reported started to come in that the film was matching thehype. So now I have seen it, and I must say it was pretty good.

I know little of Colin Firth's work, and have never appreciated HelenaBonham Carter, but this film shows them both to be on top of theirgame. Firth seems to be a shoo-in for the best actor this year, and Icannot argue against that. Geoffrey Rush is always great, and this isno exception... supporting actor win? Perhaps.

The film was fairly lengthy for such a simple topic, but it was pacedvery well and because of that could probably have been even longer andI would have been just fine with it. Some people are complaining aboutthe film's historical accuracy, and I hear that, but the film ingeneral is pretty great and the Nazi aspect can be overlooked. It wasinteresting to see Queen Elizabeth II so young...

After hearing all of the buzz about this film, I was so curious to seehow the subject matter could be made interesting/compelling enough tomake a great film. It was.

Not only beautifully filmed, but all of the actors were magnificent. Nooveracting, plenty of humor, but not gratuitous. There was no flash,but the costuming was sublime.

This offers an intimate view of a very special moment in history andhow it played out in the lives of some very special people. A behindthe scenes look at the life of 'the royals' which is timely andongoing, as is our fascination with them.

I highly recommend this film.

(Synopsis) "The King's Speech" is the story of the speech impedimentthat King George VI (Colin Firth), the father of the present day QueenElizabeth II, struggled with his entire life. George dreaded any formof public speaking, and because he was second in line to the throne, hedid not have to worry about becoming King. However, when his brotherabdicates, he must assume the throne and begin giving speeches on theradio. George has engaged the help of an Australian speech therapistnamed Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush). Logue doesn't have a medicaldegree, but he has worked in the theater and with shell-shockedsoldiers after World War I. Using unorthodox techniques and hard work,George learns to speak through his stammering to deliver a flawlessspeech heard by millions of people around the world.

(My Comment) Everyone knows someone who has had a stammering problem,and how we try to help them when they struggle to get their words out.We feel their pain, and that is why this is one of those stories thatwe want to end well. Since the movie is based on a true story, we knowit did, and we can root for the little guy who became a hero and hisfriend. Geoffrey Rush's amazing and outstanding performance as thespeech therapist was brilliant. Colin Firth's astounding performance asthe stuttering King George VI was just right and wonderful. This is apowerful and deeply moving story that will win many Oscars. (WeinsteinCompany, 1:58 Rated R) (10/10)

without a doubt one of the best movies of 2010, it was one of the mostanticipated movie after i heard about it from the Toronto InternationalFilm Festival and all the awards and Oscar buzz. i thought people mightbe overrating it. it is definitely a masterpiece, without a doubt itwas very enjoyable and entertaining too. a well crafted intelligentdrama with some humor and some scenes which seems like humor but itisn't at all. this movie is in competition with The Social Network towin the Best Picture Oscar and has 12 nominations which is outstanding.

the main highlight of this movie is performance, a brilliantmasterclass performance by Colin Firth as King George VI. Firth giveshis best performance till date and a one to remember. he is just out ofthis world, made for this role. he was also great in A Single Man buthere is unbelievably marvelous. one of the best performance ever. veryperfectly done. i loved and adored him in it. you will seriously feelan instant connection with Colin firth as King George VI and with KingGeorge VI in the form of Colin Firth. he deserves all the applause andawards for this role and a possible Oscar too. Best of luck than. wellthe other two actors that are supporting actors are Geoffrey Rush andHelena Bonham Carter. Geoffrey is such a talented man, he is a perfectman for this role but moreover with Firth. they make a wonderfulcouple, lol, but yes they do. i love them both. he is excellent. aswell as Helena is very good, nice job. so performance wise it issuperb.

Direction of this movie is brilliant, intelligent and in a differentway, gives this Genre a new direction and a whole new dimension.impressive and thumbs up work by the director. screenplay is brilliant.story is amazing. editing is good. cinematography is excellent, thefogy streets of London were shown like never before. Art and CostumesDirection is just brilliant again. i loved all the scenes with Firthand Rush.

this movie is very inspirational and has some very emotional scenes. iwas completely in to the movie from start to finish and i loved it.amazing movie. its deeply moving and completely unforgettable movie.one of the best period movie. MUST MUST MUST watch.

Brilliant and warm story about King George VI, the father of QueenElizabeth II, his small stuttering problem & his relationships not onlywith royal family members but also beginning of nice friendship withcommon man - Australian speech therapist Lionel Logue.

It is truly deeply moving story of meeting and friendship of 2 persons,that should never meet in normal circumstances. But still they do, andso the story develops and flows like a river and you go with that flow.

It is not a standard commercial movie - do not expect high tech effectsor boring screenplay, that you've seen in so many movies. Just relaxand enjoy an unseen story of friendship, human fears and interrelations, that are hidden from outside world. Step into Kings worldand share his part of the history.
