***SLIGHT SPOILERS**** This review may have a few things from themovie, but nothing that gives the whole story away. ****SLIGHTSPOILERS***** Some people here need an explanation for everything thathappens in every movie, all nicely laid out for them in a bullet pointplot summary so they can wax intellectual about it with their friendsdown at the coffee shops. This movie left a lot to the imagination, anddidn't give an explanation at the end. Well boo-hoo if that's not goodenough for you, but I, on the other hand, love a good mystery or astory about unexplained events. This movie was pretty intense all theway through, grabs you quickly in the start and pulls you in. Whereasthe special effects were nothing spectacular, it really doesn't takemuch to make moving darkness look good. It did what they needed it todo, and it works. If you don't like it, go watch Avatar again, get yourfx fix there. This movie flowed well, the actors did a good job,especially the kids, and the ending was good. It could of been ahorrible ending, they could of Tried to explain what was going on, andit would of been sooo thin and over-used it would of Totally ruined themovie. Imagine Hayden finding out that it's Another top secretgovernment experiment gone horribly wrong. OMG that would of beenhorrible, and would of made me hate this movie.

**SLIGHT SPOILER**** - Plus, it is Supposed to be unexplained, as JohnL.'s character explains from the story in his book. Why would it of notbeen explained back then but all of a sudden be explained now? Noteverything in life makes sense, not everything is Explained. It JustHappens, deal with it.

The most unbelievable part of this movie was the girl working behindthe popcorn stand at the movie theater in the beginning. When was thelast time you saw a girl even remotely that hot working a popcornstand? That's what I thought. =P

The geniuses of Hollywood came up with another pseudo-metaphysical-philosophical-religious-whatever drivel.

Not only VO7S is slow, tedious with sub-par acting and a really badlighting problem (OK, the world is getting darker, but we need to seewhat is going on, right!), it is also biased, derivative andpredictable.

One by one, the inhabitants of the planet Earth disappear and in theend two kids are left behind to repopulate the planet: Adam and Eve2.0.

Yes, God finally realized that his creation did not work as plannedbecause, as we all know, humans haven't been very kind to the planetand each other. Therefore, God in his infinite intelligence decided toreboot the whole thing and start all over again. It seems that hispatience has finally ran out.

But in order to make things right, he got rid everyone (they are allbad!) and started his experiment again using a couple of kids, a blackboy and a white girl, because God is very PC now, but not much since hesimply forgot about other ethnic groups.

Maybe God will also get rid of genetics, evolution, mutations andDarwinian adaptation and keep everyone with the right mind set thistime so that the mistakes of the past are not repeated. All he has todo is to tweak a little here and fix a little there in the kids' brains(something he should have done in first place).

Yes, it seems that this time God will get it right (looks like herealized what his mistakes were) and the descendent's of the new Adamand Eve will live happily ever after...

Just another day in God's Creation Lab, another experiment using newsubjects to test a new hypothesis. What could be better? If the firstexperiment did not work as planned, all he has to do is to destroy allexperiment subjects, which incidentally is the whole human race (a verycheap commodity), erase the slate, and start fresh.

Yes, it is that bad! Another two hours of your life we will never getback.

Avoid it.

I was actually really excited about watching this movie after i saw thetrailer.. and (of course) being a fan of Alan Wake and fightingmonsters in the dark style movies in the first place I thought thiswould be perfect fit for me.. However, it was just a bigdisappointment. I'll explain by talking about some of the pros first...since it happens to be a much shorter list. Hayden Christensen and JohnLeguizamo did do a very good job considering what they had to work withdialogue wise.. and the movie does do a good job of keeping aconsistently eerily themed tone. However, this won't make up for thelack luster story in general and the overall failed payoff.. Don't getme wrong, I really wanted to like this movie.. but there were too manythings wrong for me to just let go.. I mean, I'll buy into monsters andthe paranormal in movies pretty easily, but there's so many things notexplained or reacted to in this film that it's impossible to everbecome fully immersed in the movie. Honestly, Nothing really happens,it's just kind of scary, kind of dramatic (Kind of), then kind ofboring, then very disappointing, and then it ends.. It's hard toexplain without spoiling anything (which is what I don't want to do forthose who refuse to listen, cause i don't want to ruin your experiencebefore the movie has its chance to do that for you) But it just seemslike it would've made a great short (which is how it probably startedout) but then they injected useless and boring back stories to filltime, which is exactly what they do.. fill time, instead of PROGRESSINGTHE STORY.. I promise you, it's not even worth renting.. It'll willjust leave you irritated and unfulfilled. And did I mention they madeone of the main characters fickle and unlikeable? This character willreally get under your skin for most of the movie to were you stoprooting for them. In the end, there's just too many things in thismovie that will leave you asking,

"Seriously? ..... No. Seriously?"

Well this movie has a good cast and even a decent concept, but itsmissing something that would make it much,much better. A decent endingand 'some' explanation. While i'm sure the the writers wanted to leavean air of mystery at the end, there was just too little build up inbetween. The actors did a decent job with what they had, I mean itwasn't there fault. The problem was we really have no idea aboutanything going on in the movie all the way through. Even when we startstart seeing it first hand there is still no explanation. Still, as itthe movie itself was OK(I guess) and is deserving of its 6 rating. I'mjust disappointed as it felt unfinished and rushed and I know itcould've been so much better.

I definitely wouldn't advise paying for this movie, but if you comeacross it on cable and you have nothing to do, check it out.

Brad Anderson's (The Machinist, Transsiberian) "The Vanishing on 7thStreet" opens with an interesting concept. One night a power outagehits New York City and when the lights come back on, almost everyonehas disappeared. The victims have vanished leaving nothing behind buttheir clothing. Disquieting events are happening as the structure ofthe day disintegrates and daylight hours grow very short. Lurking inthe shadows is an unsettling whispering presence. The story is that offour survivors who attempt to escape the darkness engulfing the cityand overwhelming their psyche. Is this an alien attack or a punishmentfrom above?

Luke (Hayden Christensen) one of the survivors, is a famous newsreporter who is forced to overcome the events and save the day. Hescourers the city in hopes of finding others. Despite Christensen'sefforts to create a powerful character, the script lets him down. Amongthe people he finds is Paul (John Leguizamo) a lonely projectionist,James (Jacob Latimore) a gun wielding boy guarding his mom's bar andRosemary (Thandie Newton) a distraught women searching for her lostlover who has apparently been swept of in the ominous night. A strongcast but unable to really capture the audience because of the weakscript and the lack of convincing theatrical suspense...

i would give this movie a 7.5 - 8, but i need to offset the negativereviews.

this movie has a good production, good acting, and a good storyline.

it's not cheesy as hell, but it does have anikan skywalker.

i did want the kid to die at the end tho.

james killed Luke.

the little girl was a twist to some degree.

also, i don't understand why the darkness did not like animals.

the soundtrack was excellent; the music were the blues.

the little boy was a little crapper, but at least the little girl camearound to tie things together.

they needed a bunch of flashlights that were powered by kinetic energy.

i really enjoyed this movie.

This Movie I Rated it as 8/10 Because it's A great Movie But kind ofboring.Great Acting And Good effects But sometimes you'll get confuseda little.I Liked the movie because its Creepy,But i was kind of boredin the middle of the movie because they only talk and talk.But MaybeFor Horror fans you'll like the movie.This Movie does not have anyviolence Only Language+Frightening scenes.This Movie is a must watchbecause Hayden Christensen's First Scary Movie,and Jacob Latimore Is Anew and Good Actor His acting Was Fair enough,John leguizamo Was GoodAnd Thandie Newton Was the best.So This Movie as i said 'YOU HAVE TOWATCH IT' ITs Great You'll Like it.Hope You watch It Bye!
