Sigourney Weaver and Jamie Lee Curtis are always worth watching andthey don't disappoint here. Weaver has a particularly poignant line inthe redemption scene (not really a spoiler, these movies always have aredemption scene, don't they?)

As someone who was bullied back in the day, I was pleased that KristenBell's character does get an apology. However, given the situation andwhat we know of the characters at that point, it doesn't feel sincere.

Spoiler alert:

Again, as someone who was bullied, I was very disappointed with how thevictim's family reacted when finally confronted with how bad thingswere for Bell's character. (One exception, Jamie Lee's facialexpression immediately following the revelation.) However, there is nota single line in the script of anyone coming to the victim's defense.("Wow! I didn't realize things were that horrible for you back then. Iam so sorry. I should have done something.") I'd like to think that ifthis scenario happened in my household, I would have confronted theperpetrator and said, "How could you?" and perhaps encourage the groomto rethink the wedding. The groom doesn't really do anything toacknowledge what his bride-to-be did to the sister he supposedlyprotected all those years ago either.

But no. There's the predictable slapstick cat fight and the happyending. End of spoiler.

This is just supposed to be a lighthearted romantic comedy. It's not adocumentary or a therapy piece. However, those who were bullied andwere looking for a release may find their hackles are raised slightlyinstead. It does have some cute moments, so see it for that and ignorethe rest.

Marni (Kristen Bell) is a successful PR representative, who moved outto Los Angeles as a way to start fresh and forget her past. "You Again"opens with Marni telling a group of young PR interns the tale of herlife as a nerd in high school. Like many of us, Marni didn't have agreat time in high school because she was picked on and bulliedespecially by the lead cheerleader, Joanna (Odette Yustman). AfterMarni is done with her big speech at the PR firm, she boards a plane tohead home to attend her brother Will's (James Wolk) wedding. Once home,Marni finds out that Will is marrying Joanna; the woman who made herlife in high school a living hell. This is when Marni sets out to provethat Joanna is not this innocent good girl that she is pretending tobe. To top all this off, Joanna's Aunt Romona (Sigourney Weaver)arrives that same evening only to find out that Marni's mother Gail(Jamie Lee Curtis) has a history with her as well. A funny, silly butultimately clever film ensues...

Many reviewers are labeling "You Again" as 2010's "Bride Wars" andwhile I see a few similarities between the two films, "You Again" is afar superior film. I was actually perplexed by the amount of negativepress this film received. While it is a far cry from an Oscar worthy,it was still a feel good film with a really funny story and interestingpremise. "You Again" is a movie about a nerdy high school chick who isbullied by the head cheerleader only to find out years later that herbrother is engaged to the woman who ruined four years of her life. Aplot like that is ripe for comedy. Furthermore, the movie addresses thetheme of confronting and overcoming high school rivalries; a topic Ifeel very few movies address.

One may argue that the film is too silly for it's own good. I wouldhave to say that it's true especially towards the end but in allhonesty its a Hollywood comedy. I would rather it be a bit too sillythan a film loaded with sex gags as a filler. There are some reallyfunny scenes in this movie too. I loved the whole car ride scene whenJoanna plays "We are the Champions" and of course, the dance studioscene. I think sometimes watching actors act like teenagers are funnyespecially if you can understand where they are coming from. Thereaction that Kristen Bell's character has when she sees Joanna againis priceless. Try to put yourself in these shoes...you are tortured inhigh school and get out hoping to never see that person again but findout they are marrying a family member. That's like a nightmare of epicportions. The thing I thought was even more humorous about the film wasthe fact they showed it happens to all generations, not just theyounger. I think Jamie Lee Curtis's reaction to Weaver's entrance wasequally priceless.

Kristen Bell is the highlight of the film. I always enjoyed her inthese types of roles. I find her to be cute and lovable. She plays agood nerd in the beginning and I found it believable because it fitsher as a person. Bell doesn't seem to have that mass appeal that sayReese Witherspoon has but I do enjoy her films and hope she continuesto do films. I would say her character Marni is a bit similar to hercharacter in "When in Rome," however here the character has more depth.It's a better written character with more of a background story.

As for the other actors, I felt Odette Yustman was just great and likeBell really fit her character. You can tell that she wasn't thisinnocent girl she pretended to be. She plays one hell of a mean girlthat's for sure. I think she had great chemistry with Bell as enemies.As for Curtis, she's good in comedies and I loved her in this film.While she plays the mom role here watching her competing with SigourneyWeaver is a blast. I think everyone involved did a good job with theirroles and did what the script requested of them. I should mention BetteWhite, who absolutely steals the scenes and has a hilarious scene atthe films conclusion.

I really don't know what all the reviewers were complaining about with"You Again." I thought the premise was fairly unique and the overallfilm was fun and full of fluff. The movie was really funny at timeseven though it used the typical clichés that comedies nowadays tend touse. This is a movie where you just sit back and enjoy a few goodlaughs. I know as a male, I didn't mind watching this film and feltthat it wasn't like the typical chick flick. The ending was rathertypical and overly clichéd but than again that's not surprising comingout of Hollywood.

All in all,"You Again" is an enjoyable comedy that I wouldn't mindhaving to watch again. Everyone involved did a great job especiallyBell who steals the show and wins the audience over within the first 10minutes of the film. Just remember people, this is a silly comedy andnot a comedic masterpiece. No one should be expecting an Oscar worthyfilm and if you can get past that you should be able to enjoy to this.I personally think a lot of people have enjoyed this film despite whatthe critics say because can relate to one of the characters in one wayor another. It's an cute and enjoyable flick and I recommend thoselooking for a wholesome laugh to check it out.

Wow this year stinks in the movie industry! You Again is a rom-comchick-flick with an unfunny predictable storyline filled with clichésand overplayed scenes. There was potential for a good movie here butthe dialogue reads like the writer spent all of about two weeks writingit, while stoned. What probably should have been the funniest scene atthe wedding rehearsal dinner, when the women declare open war on eachother, was uncomfortable. The audience sat in near silence during thisscene with only the sound of an occasional uneasy chuckle or nervoustitter.

In the end I am not sure what was harder to believe - that these twoenemies forgave each other, not that the bully needed to be forgiven,or that you can get cheez whiz out of a wedding dress...

The funniest scene is the very last one, and you would have to be atleast 50 years old and a fan of the Mary Tyler Moore show to rememberwhy!

Not a complete dud but with a lot of eye-rolling moments, "You Again"relentlessly feels like schlock. I thought it was trying to to be toomuch of both worlds. Sometimes getting serious and stern losing it'sgrip on earlier zany tones to impart grasshopper messages offorgiveness. While the vendetta between the younger 20-somethings isfair enough, the movie trudges over ridiculousness when Weaver andCurtis characters enter center stage. Unbelievable and cheesy theirteen-like reactions and antics doesn't pass for funny. Kristin Bell iswell cast and is a well thought out and good protagonist, however, bythe end of the movie I was happy to turn it off with Hall and Oatessinging in an impromptu hospital wedding. If you're the director andwant to make a wild comedy stay away from mixing tones - it has a badwatering down effect.
